We returned home late from a band concert the other night, and sent my drowsy 11-year-old right up to bed.
A few minutes later, he came back down, hand over his throat.
“Mom,” he says with a worried look. “My throat is feeling very funny. It’s fine one minute, but then all of a sudden it gets really hot. It’s not like it hurts or anything, though.”
“Okay, well, have you been in contact with any animals that aren’t hypoallergenic today?” I ask, since he’s allergic to dander.
“No,” he says, staring at me with a look of despair. “But, Mom, I . . . I think may have caught your hot flashes.”
