An Ode to Autumn
Twinkle, twinkle little moon
How’d we zip to fall from June?
Roses are warm
Violets are cool
Can it be it’s already the 4th week of school?!
Summer skipped in, recited its lines,
Splashed in the pool, and flowered some vines,
Grew some tomatoes, and hosted some picnics,
baked us with heatwaves, and brought the Olympics.
Then quick like a flash it was gone in a wink
Without any fanfare or raising a stink.
And now we dive into the beauty of fall
Where Kelly, lime, and honeydew – greenish hues all
Transform into ochre and crimson and gold,
And hot is replaced with a wee touch of cold.
Breathe deeply the scent of the bonfires that burn,
Let glorious fall set the stage, take its turn.
Don’t rush it or shun it or give it a snub,
(Like the dang X-Mas tree on display at Sam’s Club.)
Pumpkin mash in a can,
Celebrate this season
All the ways that you can!
Hobgoblins are coming,
They’ll give such a fright.
Happy autumn to all,
And to all a good night!
